The New Jawaiian Blog

I’d like to tell all of you who are reading this a little bit about our company, why we started it, where we plan to go with it, and what’s in it for you!  ….but first, a little bit about our name.  You see…everything in our website, and in our company, has purpose, has reasoning, and has symbolism… and I think that it would be interesting to tell you what it’s all about.

Our company, as opposed to our website, is called Jawaiian Trading Company, Inc.  (Crazy name, huh?).  Well, I’m actually Jamaican…and as you may have guessed, my wife is Hawaiian.  So, our kids are… Jawaiian!  ….Actually, as a lot of Jamaicans and Hawaiians are, we’re both mixed with a bunch of other stuff. However, we both have native Jamaican and native Hawaiian, which is pretty unique!  Our poor kids, on the other hand, are just all mixed up! :) They might as well just check off every box in the ethnicity group!  (They really need to just get rid of that box anyway!!).   …So, there you have it!  Jawaiian Trading Company, Inc was born!

So, where in the world does the name 2Honu come from?

Not long after Jawaiian Trading Company, Inc was created, we knew that the name would be way too long for a website name!  www.jawaiiantradingcompanyinc.com ..... I’m getting tired just thinking about writing it!  So, we started thinking about what our site would be about.  We knew that we wanted to sell Hawaiian goods…real Hawaiian and not the touristy stuff…especially what’s hard to find!  But we also realized that, in keeping with our own style and our own interpretation of the Aloha spirit, our business would be family-centric.

Above our bed is a framed artwork of two honu (Hawaiian sea turtle) made from 1001 gold origami cranes.  This was made for us in honor of our wedding, and it represented our unity.  We think that this unity should be carried throughout our company, and anyone who is part of our company is part of our special ohana.  So, 2Honu seemed a natural fit!

Where is the company going?

Yes, we make and sell custom lei…and we’re good at it!  However, we have noticed over the years that there are certain things that either a) are hard to find or b) are only available in Hawaii or if you know someone.  We’re hoping to bridge that gap and bring the good stuff from Hawaii to you!  We’re not talking about the desktop hula girls.  (Although, I do have a couple!)  We’re talking about the art from Hawaiian artists that haven’t been discovered yet….or that aloha wear that you just could not find online….or piece of Hawaiian jewelry that you’ve seen only in Hawaii.  We’re also planning on creating an information portal for all things Hawaiian, including events, halau information, travel, language, arts, culture, etc.  (Yes…we’ll be busy!...but it will be worth it!)

What’s in it for you?

If you love Hawaii, Hawaiian culture, Hawaiian art, Hawaiian products, and (oh yeah!) Hawaiian lei, then this is the place for you!  You’ll definitely want to join our newsletter to find out what’s new with us and what’s new in Hawaii.

I hope to see you again!

Mahalo nui loa!
